Barrel racing is far more complicated then turning three circles as fast as you possibly can. It takes extreme force, momentum, and acceleration to pivot around a single barrel. Our group first started by discussing which sport we wanted to focus on. We through ideas left and right, we talked about basketball, soccer, water polo, any sport that would be unique and different then a usual sport. In the end we decided to report on barrel racing. Barrel racing is a rodeo event in which a horse and its rider attempt to complete a clover leaf pattern around three barrels at the fastest time possible.
Our group then began to plan out our outline and script. We wrote things we wanted to include in one shot on pieces of paper and order them in the way we thought would make more sense. The script was probably the most simple step of the whole project, it took a day to write and edit parts out and add important details in. However, in our script we need to add calculations of force, acceleration, and momentum which we couldn't do without a horse and an arena. We obviously couldn't film at school so we had to wait a complete week before we actually filmed footage of a barrel racing pattern. This caused a great set back in our planning and less time for our editing which effected our final film. The whole filming process took an hour and a half and we ended up using about a minute of the footage of the horse and rider.
Since one person in our group was the only one who knew how to edit and place clips in a movie format a lot of the video relied on his ability to create the final outcome which made it difficult for all of us to help. All the member's ideas were included in the video but i believe we did not put our full potential into the final outcome. Although i think this, i understand why because we only had a couple days to put the footage together and add the calculations.
But even after the set back and negotiating my group was phenomenal, we worked well together and came up with great ideas, and listened to each others comments and concerns. Our attitude, collaboration, and critical thinking couldn't have been better. I was very pleased on how focused we were and the way we compromised with ease and no arguing. One thing our group could have worked on better was to put more effort into the creativity of the video. Ours was very basic and plain with lack of very fun bold visuals, compared to other groups. We had such a unique sport but i felt we could have improved on video ideas and creativeness.
CONCEPTS:
Momentum: is the product of the mass and velocity of an object
Force: is any influence that causes an object to go through a certain change in its movement, or direction
Velocity: the speed of something in a given direction
Work: when it acts on a body when there is a displacement of the point of application in the direction of the force
