Bamboo Tree Splicing Project:
By: Emilie Claire Schneider, Archer Leida, Ingrid Borgesen, Yazeed Hamami, Austin Marshall, and Griffin Leland
Unmet need:
All over the world pollution continues to be a growing threat to the health of the population. In places such as Indonesia and China, people are forced to wear face masks in order to remain safe from inhalation of chemicals and smog. A quick solution to this problem would be to plant more oxygen producing plants such as trees. Unfortunately, trees take years to grow. Our project could change the rate at which trees grow.
Project Idea:
Our idea is to combine the DNA of a bamboo plant with the DNA of a high oxygen producing plant such as the Conifer. This would create a faster growing and more resilient tree that would produce large amounts of oxygen in a polluted area. Since Bamboo plants can virtually grow anywhere, this makes it the ideal plant to combine with the Conifer tree. This idea could lead to the development of edible plants to grow year round, to live with little water, and to grow faster with more produce.
Materials:
Bamboo growth genes
Conifer tree saplings
Facilities:
Lab for researching the genes of the plants and genetically combining them
Facility for manufacturing product
"HQ" for all the legal, financial, distribution, etc.
Types of trees by region:
Africa:
Oceania(australia/new zealand):
Estimated Cost of Development:
Estimated Total Cost of Production:
Timeline:
1) Develop company and find possible investors
2) Buy facility for research
3) Research genetics and combining of bamboo growth gene and other trees
4) Develop final product
5) Begin advertising product begin to gain popularity and reputation
6) Manufacture product and being distributing
7) Expand company and its facilities
8) Continue to research and improve product
9) Keep building reputation and popularity
10) Keep company running smoothly (financially and independently)
